Those funky mofos from The Great White North are at it again, with the first single off their upcoming 3rd album "Don't Turn the Lights On". The tune is classic Chromeo and was definitely worth the wait. The video is equal parts funky and freaky, with glowing eyeballs and mouths in the dark.

If you're like me, you got a chub when you heard Daft Punk would be scoring the new Tron: Legacy soundtrack. Any new music by Daft Punk is exciting, even if some of it may be fake. The hype is at a fever pitch, and there is more stuff surfacing every day. YouTube user alexdaft26 has uploaded the entire soundtrack to the film in nine videos, but those have been reported fake too. Now there is a Soundcloud posting with tracks claiming to be real.
I guess we'll have to wait and see, but at least it gives me something to look forward to in the crappy holiday movie season.

The new MGMT album Congratulations leaked, so the boys went ahead and put the disc up in its entirety to stream via their website WhoisMGMT.com .I must say, the album is consistent, but consistently weird. If you're looking for electro pop nuggets like "Time to Pretend" and "Electric Feel", there are none to be found. Tunes like "Flash Delirium" and "Siberian Breaks" have the feel that Oracular Spectacular did so well, but this is certainly the album they wanted to make. They won't get much radio play this time around, but I doubt that is what they were shooting for. I'll let you be the judge.

2010 is only 20 days old and it is already shaping up to be a great year for Gorillaz. Yesterday they were announced as the Sunday closing headliner for Coachella, and now today Damon Albarn leaked the first song off their up coming album Plastic Beach. Under his guise as Murdoch (Twitter.com/murdochgorillaz), Damon announced via Twitter: "A leak! A leak! 'Plastic Beach' has sprung a leak! One of those Russian pirates has put a bullet hole on my island! My single's leaked! 'STYLO'!"

In this time of year, with no shows and the cold weather, I start following the spring and summer festivals, yearning for live music and warm weather. In January and February, we'll start getting info about Bonnaroo, Coachella, and the summer concert season. Growing up in South Florida, Winter Music Conference was always one of the highlights of the year. This week long fiesta takes place in the clubs and hotels of South Beach and spills over into downtown Miami as well. It is always a blast and in recent years concludes with the Ultra Music Festival at Bicentennial Park. The official lineup for Ultra Music Festival 2010 was announced today and as usual, features heavyweight DJ's and electronic acts. This year they have also added followed the recent trend of adding more eclectic acts from hip-hop and the jam circuit.

As 2009 draws to a close, most music mags and blogs are releasing their year-end top picks for albums and songs of 2009. In addition, with the decade ending many are also releasing their top albums of the '00's. Rolling Stone is not only one of the first to put their's out, but also one of the ones I agree with. Believe me, I find myself at odds with mags like Rolling Stone, Spin, and more all the time, but for the most part I think they have compiled a good list here. Taking the top spot is Radiohead's Kid A, and after revisiting it a bit today to refresh my memory, I have to agree. Definitely one of Radiohead's crowning moments. OK Computer may be their most critically acclaimed album, but Kid A certainly rivals it on composition and takes their vision one step further.
Here's the criteria Rolling Stone used: "A panel of more than 100 artists (from Coldplay to Metallica to Lil Wayne), critics and industry insiders name Radiohead's 2000 masterpiece "Kid A" the greatest LP of the 2000s."
1 | Radiohead: Kid A
2 | The Strokes: Is This It
3 | Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
4 | Jay-Z: The Blueprint
5 | The White Stripes: Elephant
6 | Arcade Fire: Funeral
7 | Eminem: The Marshal Mathers LP
8 | Bob Dylan: Modern Times
9 | M.I.A.: Kala
10 | Kanye West: The College Dropout

Another year, and another WTF from me as far as the Grammys go. Of course the Beyonces and Taylor Swifts garner the most nominations. That is to be expected of the songs that torture me on Top 40 radio throughout the year. Kings of Leon received several nominations for crossover hit "Use Somebody" even if Only By the Night came out last year. Not really sure why Silversun Pickups and MGMT are up for Best New Artist when SSP are on their second full length album and MGMT have been kicking around for several years as well. Gotta root for Keri Hilson in that category, just so SSP, MGMT, and The Ting Tings don't get the only curse worse than the curse of the Madden cover.

With spring rapidly approaching, the spring and summer festival lineups will start coming out soon. Bonnaroo is expected to announce by the end of January, and tickets are already on-sale for the holidays for Roo. Coachella will probably announce right after the first of the year, with plenty more to follow. Bamboozle in NJ announced its headliners this week, with Weezer and Paramore. The first major festival will be South By Southwest in Austin, TX though, and they put out the initial lineup of their showcases. As in years past, it will mostly be showcases of buzzworthy bands across the world along with the other interactive, film, and technology conferences going on. Notables from ATL include The Constellations and The Coathangers.

Deadmau5 (pronounced "Dead Mouse") is one of the biggest DJ/Producers in the world right now and its not just for his music or iconic massive mouse head. His use of multimedia and social networking is unrivaled, with iPhone remix apps, video games, bizarre music videos, and more. Deadmau5 AKA Joel Zimmerman hails from Canada and in just a short few years has become one of the most respected House/Trance producers around and was even nominated for a Grammy last year for his remix of The Longest Road" by Morgan Page.

Cage the Elephant has been one of my favorite up and coming bands for a while now, even before we started playing "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked". They are one of those bands that have cut their teeth in Europe, and its good that they are getting their just due in the States. Bands like Kings of Leon took years to get their props.
Anyhow, we'll have them in on November 21 for a show at Center Stage and it should be fantastic. After seeing them at Bonnaroo this past year I realized what a great live band they are. Lead singer Matt Shultz jumped around like a howling baboon, and wore something I could only say resembled a Flash costume. The rest of the band is tight and most songs had an insane amount of energy. This all going down Sunday at 12:30pm, when Bonnaroo has about zero energy from a long Saturday night.
We'll also be hosting an in-store with Criminal Records that day. Get there early if yu're not going to make the show on Saturday. Or just come get a taste, and I know you'll be clamoring for tickets to the show.
